Pitted Prunes - Organic
Pitted Prunes - Organic
What Are Pitted Prunes?
A prune is a dried version of the plum – usually the d’Agen variety, with a deep taste and sticky, chewy texture.
Plums belong to the Prunus genus of plants and are relatives of the peach, nectarine and almond. They are all considered "drupes," fruits that have a hard stone pit surrounding their seeds.
Prunes have been used since ancient times - a Sumerian clay tablet from 2150 BC reveals the use of prunes in poultices!
Cooking Prunes
If you are planning on cooking the prunes, soaking them in water or juice beforehand will reduce the cooking time.
Prunes can be stewed and used to top pancakes, porridge or desserts. They make an excellent stuffing ingredient for chicken and pair well with lamb.
You can also blend into smoothies and add them to baked goods.
They are also totally delicious on their own however, they are sticky!
