Basil - Organic
What Is Basil?
Basil (also known as great basil or Saint-Joseph's-wort), is part of the mint family and originated in Egypt over 4,000 years ago.
Basil was considered a sacred herb in its native India and was often planted in temples as a protector.
This dry basil has a subtle peppery flavour but, when it's cooked, it becomes much sweeter. It makes an excellent addition to sauces and stews – basically anything that has a longer cooking time to bring out its sweetness.
Cooking With Dry Basil
To use in place of fresh basil, basically use 1/3 of the fresh basil amount. So, one tablespoon of fresh chopped basil equals one teaspoon dried.
