Originating from SE Asia, cloves are the hard dried flower buds of an evergreen tree in the myrtle family.
Whole cloves are about 1cm long and shaped like a small, reddish-brown spike with a ball at one end.
They have a rich warm flavour and aroma have been used for thousands of years across Asia.
Cooking with Cloves
Cloves can be used in both sweet and savoury dishes, from flavouring sauces, soups, and curries to mulled wines, biscuits and pastries.
